Just thought I'd point you in the direction of a dvd that's coming out called 'The London Nobody Knows' which is a documentary from about 1966 with James Mason going around various parts of London. Just seen some clips on the tv and it looks like a tidy little picture of what the 'real' London was like, away from the 'swinging london' hype. I think it's out on Monday; it's a double hander with another film about London. Looked to me like something you'd be interested in.
Thanks for the heads-up Simon. That's quite a famous documentary (at least among Saint Etienne fans it is) and I've never seen it so I'll be buying it for sure.
I've loved them since Foxbase Alpha, but for a couple of years there at the start of the millenium I kind of...forgot about them. I've since resumed my obsession with them, so films like this one jump out at me. If there's a band that are the aural equivalent of the blogs it's Saint Etienne.
The sentimental musings of an ageing British expat in words, music, and pictures. Files are only up for a limited time so drink them while they're hot.

Having said that, and I personally still intend to buy the thing; it's also on Youtube

You're so predictable. ;0*
See what fun you can have with a great picture, groovy music and just a few words x
I see what you mean about Saint Etienne and that film:

I know, they're sort of the patron saints of this blog and I've been meaning to do a long post on them for a while.
What a highly frightening picture!
I'm old enought to remember this documentary ! No home videos then alas.
I remember it showing the sites of the Jack The Ripper murders which were still standing back then. Look forward to getting the DVD
